Founded on March 29, 1882, thanks to the vision of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, the Knights of Columbus was officially chartered by the Connecticut State Legislature as a fraternal benefit society. The Order remains faithful to its founding principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.
The Knights was formed to provide financial aid and support to members and their families. Assistance is offered to the sick, disabled, and those in need. The Order also fosters social and spiritual fellowship through educational, charitable, religious, and community works, including war relief and public outreach.
Father McGivney’s foresight—now recognized through his ongoing cause for sainthood at the Vatican—gave rise to what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Knights of Columbus has helped families find security and stability through life insurance, annuities, and long-term care programs, while also dedicating countless hours of service to communities worldwide.
Today, the Knights of Columbus has grown from a single council to over 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members across the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam, and Saipan.
Our Pastoral Care Ministry brings the presence of Christ to those who are unable to join us at church. Volunteers take Holy Communion and make home visits to the homebound, elderly, and infirm members of our parish community.

The Pastoral Council is a consultative body that assists the pastor in matters of major pastoral concern. Its purpose is to promote the spiritual growth of the parish community and to help plan effective ways for the parish to carry out the mission of the Church.
Council members represent the interests and pastoral needs of the parish community, working closely with existing groups and, when needed, forming new initiatives. Together, they seek to foster the mission of the Church—both locally and universally—while encouraging the faithful to grow as a vibrant family of faith.
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process through which adults and older children are welcomed into the Catholic Church. It is designed for those who:
Have never been baptized and seek to become Catholic,
Have been baptized in another Christian tradition and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church, or
Were baptized Catholic but have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation.
OCIA is a journey of prayer, catechesis, and fellowship that unfolds over several months, helping participants encounter Christ and deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith. Alongside sponsors and the parish community, candidates grow in faith until they are ready to receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil or another appropriate liturgy.
📖 If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic or completing the sacraments of initiation, please contact the Parish Office for more information about upcoming sessions.
